Scorching mail order delivery temperatures put patients at risk

Mail order can be dangerous, with temperatures in delivery trucks often far exceeding national standards for drug handling. That can alter the contents of medicine and put lives at risk, as new reporting by the New York Times shows. The newspaper shared the stories of several patients who experienced serious medical complications from taking overheated medications or saw existing conditions worsen without treatment. The facts are that mail-order drugs drive up costs for employers and the vast majority of consumers don’t want to be forced by PBM-insurers into using mail order, preferring instead to talk with a pharmacist, according to a 2021 NCPA survey.
