On Aug. 12, 2008, U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps won three gold medals in the Beijing Olympics. He set records in all three events: the 200-meter individual medley, 200-meter butterfly and the 4x200-meter freestyle relay. On the same day in 2016, Phelps ended his career at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, winning his 23rd gold medal in the 4x100 medley relay.
