Play your role in diabetes awareness

NCPA October 28, 2026

Forty million Americans live with diabetes, one quarter of them going undiagnosed. Another 115 million have prediabetes. As America’s most accessible health care provider, independent pharmacies are the perfect places to inform the public on diabetes, and how to prevent and self-manage the condition. A CPESN® Community Connected webinar on Nov. 4 at 9 p.m. ET will share how pharmacy and health care teams can effectively engage on those topics through culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and equitable care in collaboration with community partners.

The session, held in recognition of American Diabetes Month, will describe current U.S. diabetes epidemiology trends and national statistics, including disparities impacting Native American populations, and review care strategies. The session will also identify opportunities to collaborate with community stakeholders to expand access to culturally responsive education, screening, and chronic disease services, and recognize myths, stigma, and cultural factors to support trauma-informed, culturally competent, and equitable diabetes care.

Community Connected is a CPESN initiative that prepares community pharmacies to thrive by delivering patient-centered services within the diverse communities where people live, eat, play, and pray.
