Tropical Storm Isaias is expected to reach the northern Gulf Coast this weekend and may strengthen to a hurricane before landfall. Independent pharmacies from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle should take steps now to protect their staff, patients, and operations.
Before the storm:
- Back up patient records and confirm you can reach your pharmacy system remotely
- Test generators, secure fuel, and plan for refrigerated medications
- Reach out to high-risk patients about early refills and emergency supplies
- Share your staff contact list and confirm who will communicate closures and reopenings
- Review your state’s emergency refill rules, which often loosen when an emergency is declared
After the storm:
If your pharmacy is damaged or disrupted, the NCPA Foundation Disaster Relief Fund provides grants to help independent pharmacies reopen and keep serving their communities. Apply at https://www.ncpafoundation.org/ncpa-foundation-disaster-relief-fund/.
