“Changes are imminent” for Walgreens, CEO says

With reports last week of Rite Aid closures and Walgreens’ plans that may result in it shuttering hundreds (perhaps even thousands) of additional stores, Americans on both sides of the aisle are being left looking for new pharmacies … and independent pharmacies are often scrambling to rescue them. Despite these pharmacists’ willingness to help, low reimbursements and contracting issues may make it difficult for them to actually do so and remain viable, an NCPA survey of independent pharmacy owners/managers revealed last year. It’s a wake-up call to the American public: access to community pharmacies is in peril without PBM reform!
