Earlier this week, the Maryland State Senate passed HB 76, clearing its second chamber and now awaiting the signature of Gov. Wes Moore (D). This legislation allows licensed pharmacists to order and administer flu and COVID-19 vaccines to patients three years of age and up, and all other ACIP-recommended vaccines to patients six years of age and up. The Tennessee General Assembly passed SB 869/HB 282, making permanent authorities for immunization and testing, and allowing pharmacists to prescribe preventative medication for medical conditions. The legislation permits pharmacists to dispense opioid antagonists, epinephrine auto injectors, post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) for exposure to HIV infection and hormonal contraception. When signed, the legislation will allow both states to join 30 others that expanded pharmacists’ scope of practice .
