Social determinants of health (as outlined by HHS – the centerpiece of its Healthy People 2030 plan) offers pharmacists the chance to deeply connect with patients and boost their bottom lines. They involve all environmental, social, economic, and otherwise contextual factors that play a huge role in our individual health and, collectively, play a huge role in our health as communities. Yet, the quantifiable effects of social determinants are hard to measure and pharmacy staff don’t often get credit for everything they do to help mitigate adverse social determinants.
