The U.S. government is winding down control of the COVID-19 therapeutics distribution and moving towards commercialization, much like with vaccines earlier in the fall. The Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response developed this resource outlining the transition plan. Merck and Pfizer are releasing additional information as well.
Both Merck and Pfizer have launched their patient assistance programs to help patients who are un- and underinsured. Access Merck’s program for molnupiravir (Lagevrio) here and Pfizer’s program for Paxlovid (nirmatrelvir co-packaged with ritonavir) here.
Pfizer is also hosting two virtual (non-CE) webinars this week so pharmacy teams can hear directly from them about their transition plans for Paxlovid. They’ll be taking place Thursday, Dec. 14, from 2 - 2:30 p.m. ET and 7 - 7:30 p.m. ET. The webinars will cover the timeline to transition to traditional distribution and reimbursement channels, returning EUA-labeled Paxlovid, ordering NDA-labeled Paxlovid, differences in packaging between EUA-labeled and NDA-labeled product, and logistical information regarding the PAXCESS Patient Support Program, including information on the copay program for commercially insured patients and the U.S. Government Patient Assistance Program, operated by Pfizer, for Medicare, Medicaid, and uninsured patients.
