The California State Assembly and State Senate have passed AB 1286, which authorizes the pharmacist-in-charge to make staffing decisions and permits pharmacy technicians to administer flu and COVID-19 vaccines and collect specimens for laboratory tests. The bill mandates reporting of medication errors and gives the Board of Pharmacy authority to close a pharmacy if there’s a report risk to patients. The California Pharmacists Association has been at the forefront addressing patient safety within pharmacy and improving working conditions for all pharmacists.
