Have you considered offering diabetes self-management education at your pharmacy? You can collaborate with prescribers to offer DSME to patients, and the market is wide open. Less than 5 percent of Medicare beneficiaries use their DSME benefits. Currently, one-on-one education pays $120 per hour and group education pays for up to 20 people at $28 per hour, per person. That’s a potential of $560 an hour, BUT you need to have an accredited site in order to bill Medicare. When seven patients complete the program, you’ve paid for your investment. You can help your patients take a more active role in managing their condition by becoming an accredited DSME provider.
