ALEXANDRIA, Va. (April 10, 2024) – The National Community Pharmacists Association is pleased to be announcing CORE, a revolutionary approach to training pharmacy owners and their team members on the most essential elements of team leadership. Led by talented, successful pharmacy owners and subject matter experts, NCPA’s yearlong CORE program will equip participants with the business training and leadership development tools needed to strengthen and evolve their pharmacy and increase profitability.

“With tight margins and financial challenges as they are in pharmacy these days, there’s no room to overlook any business element that is central to success,” said NCPA Innovation Center President Kurt Proctor. “Managing inventory, evaluating purchasing, modifying workflows – these are areas where many independent pharmacists tell us they’re comfortable. There are other essential skills, however, where there’s maybe less focus during school or earlier in pharmacy careers despite being just as important in operating a successful store. NCPA’s new CORE program will cover the lesser-known essential principles of leadership and management and close knowledge gaps to help participants elevate themselves and their business to new heights.”

Aimed at anyone looking to expand their leadership skills and business acumen, CORE has been designed to improve confidence and experience in areas where pharmacy owners say they often feel least equipped. This includes developing and launching meaningful marketing campaigns, maximizing staff, and creating business plans when starting new services. Participants – who can be pharmacy owners, managers, or other team leaders – will join one live virtual session each week along with a limited small group of others going through the program. They will also have in-person networking and learning sessions at the NCPA Annual Convention in October and the option of additional one-on-one consulting calls with industry experts who will coach them through implementing practical, meaningful changes in their business.

Experts on tap for NCPA’s CORE program are leaders who have been successful in the areas of marketing, operations, and finances. They will include Kelley Babcock, Terri Norvell, the team with Sykes & Co. CPAs, Dave Wendland and Travis Wolff, who are going to share their practical plans for better understanding finances and key performance metrics, ways to best lead pharmacy teams, and effective purchasing strategies for financial stability and success.

Enrollment for the inaugural cohort of NCPA’s CORE program is open now through May 31. The course will kick off in June with an orientation session to introduce participants to the program. To learn more and enroll, click here.
