NCPA March 23, 2022

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (March 23, 2022) – The National Community Pharmacists Association is pleased to announce that Spruce Mountain Pharmacy in Jay, Maine, has earned the 2022 NCPA Innovation Center Excellence Award for Best Exterior Sign. This is the fifth year of the NICE Awards competition, which was created to recognize pharmacies for their efforts to enhance their value, promote their services, and better serve their communities. The NICE Awards are sponsored by RedSail Technologies, LLC.

“Congratulations to Spruce Mountain Pharmacy for earning the NICE Award for Best Exterior Sign,” says NCPA Innovation Center President Kurt Proctor. “The NICE Awards spotlight the best of community pharmacy branding and marketing – the innovations and redesigns that have made promotions more effective and patients’ experiences more rewarding. Spruce Mountain did a great job in designing an attractive, eye-catching sign so existing and potential new patients approaching the store can instantly recognize it as a full-service pharmacy.”

Pharmacy owner Steve Maki opened Spruce Mountain Pharmacy from scratch in 2009. In 2019 he moved the pharmacy to a new location, with a new sign to boot. The old sign was a minimal 4-by-8 painted board with the pharmacy name and logo. Maki worked with Neokraft Signs in Lewiston to develop the new sign, which has an LED display that allows the pharmacy to market latest news, seasonal updates, and the store’s various offerings, including its vaccine and compounding services. The sign’s base also has a stonework planter for flowers during warm weather.

“It’s a great sign and a great new location,” Maki says. “Everything just kind of fell into place.”

Spruce Mountain Pharmacy’s products and services include standard retail and over-the-counter products; compounding; medication adherence services; durable medical equipment; flu shots and immunizations; medication synchronization; medication therapy management services; private consultations; FlavorRx system; drive-up window; compliance packing with RapidPakRx system; and cards and gifts.
