The sitcom “Friends” debuted on NBC on this day in 1994, quickly becoming a popular nighttime watch and setting a standard for the genre, not to mention making its early-career cast stars (at least for a while). The name was fitting for a show centered on the relationships between six young adults as they navigate their early careers and daily life in New York. The show was so popular that its 2004 finale garnered 50 million views.
Of the show’s six main actors, some went on to have big roles in Hollywood for years to come (Jennifer Aniston especially), while others remain respected names that pop up in major film projects here and there. Matthew Perry, tragically, passed away in 2023.
