An exemption for small dispensers from electronic tracing requirements under Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) has been extended through Nov. 27, 2027. This exemption gives the Food and Drug Administration time to complete a small dispenser assessment required by law, publish it for public comment, and host a public meeting on it. The agency is assessing the feasibility of small dispensers conducting interoperable, electronic tracing of products at the package level, in the process determining whether the necessary software and hardware are readily accessible, if they are prohibitively expensive to use, and whether they can be integrated into business practices. NCPA urges pharmacy companies with 25 or fewer full-time employees (i.e. “small dispensers”) to complete the survey before the deadline, which is Sept. 22, 2026.
