Amid a wave of industry consolidation, pharmacy software provider Datascan has publicly pledged to remain an independently owned company, stating it will “continue investing in its technology, employees, customer support and long-term relationships with independent pharmacy owners.” In a press release, the company acknowledged the difficult technological environments created for independent pharmacies by acquisitions and other corporate reorganizations, and the discontinuation of various software, creating higher prices, worse service, and additional requirements to use tools critical to modern practice. Notably, Datascan acknowledged that it had refused several offers to acquire the company.

“Independent pharmacy owners already have enough outside pressures working against them,” said Datascan President and Owner Kevin Minassian. “They should not also have to wonder whether their software company will be sold, whether their system will be discontinued, whether the people they trust will still be there or whether they are going to be forced into another vendor relationship simply because it creates more profit for the software company.”

In its press release, which you can read here, the company discusses its plans for its ownership structure in the future, excluding the possibility of a sale or private-equity exit, as well as its work updating its products and ensuring Datascan customers have control over their selection of other vendors and services. It also committed to transparent pricing and strong customer support.
