More on CPG’s community pharmacy awareness campaign

Cascadia Pharmacy Group is building on its “Small Pharmacy. Big Care.” public awareness campaign, seeking to connect the tobacco cessation support many pharmacies already provide with a new law in Oregon that expands the definition of “tobacco products” to include oral nicotine pouches, nicotine lozenges, and other nicotine products, regardless of whether naturally or synthetically derived. The law closes a regulatory gap that was allowing flavored nicotine pouches, lozenges and gum to find their way into the hands of Oregon teenagers, facilitating ongoing efforts to prevent youth nicotine addiction and help adults quit, too. “A law can close a loophole, but it can’t sit down with someone and help them build a quit plan,” says Tara Pfund, director of program development at CPG, in a news release issued Friday. “That’s what our pharmacists do every day, and it’s exactly the kind of care this campaign is trying to put back on people’s radar.”

Built to work in conjunction with NCPA’s “Neighbors, Not Numbers” branding campaign, the CPG campaign was funded by the Oregon Health Authority and facilitated by the Oregon State University College of Pharmacy. Visit their campaign website to view a documentary-style film featuring real pharmacists and real patients.
