Last week, the governors of California, Washington, Oregon, and Hawaii announced a health alliance that would review scientific data and make vaccine recommendations for their residents. The four states plan to use data and recommendations from national organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG).
Colorado's Board of Pharmacy published emergency rules that ensure pharmacists are permitted to prescribe, order, and administer vaccines, citing recommendations from AAP and ACOG.
In New York, Governor Kathy Hochul signed an executive order allowing pharmacists to prescribe and administer the COVID-19 vaccines. In New Mexico, pharmacists have received the "green light" to administer COVID-19 vaccinations from the state's health department.
Minnesota's Governor Tim Walz issued an executive order directing the state's Department of Health to coordinate with state agencies to remove all barriers to vaccine access. NCPA will continue to monitor this issue as more states take action.
