Jeff Harrell, PharmD, is an expert in finding the little ways pharmacies can cut down on expenses to boost profitability. Whether it’s by investing in new technologies or negotiating down the prices of the services and products pharmacies need to stay in business, he can find the savings. He’s done it so many times that as CEO of Cascadia Pharmacy Group – which has dozens of locations, all of which Jeff has some ownership in and is still growing – he now has a routine that he runs every time he takes on a new store, to make sure that location hits the ground running.
Now, as NCPA’s 2024-2025 president, he wants to share that playbook with community pharmacies that need to shore up their sustainability. In this month’s America’s Pharmacist, Jeff shares how he got into pharmacy ownership, how he discovered his love for “moving the needle” on the daily costs of financial ownership, and how other owners can take advantage of the “base hits” to make their locations more profitable.
