Today is Book Publishers Day, and you might have caught the number one bestseller according to Amazon in the pharmacy category — “Pharmacy Practice and the Law,” by Richard R. Abood, now in its tenth edition. A close second? “A Practical Guide to Contemporary Pharmacy Practice and Compounding,” by Deborah Lester Elder, now in its fourth edition, bookended (pun intended) by the ninth edition of another legal standard, “Guide to Federal Pharmacy Law,” by Barry S. Reiss and Gary D. Hall. Keep going down the list until you reach number 35 — “Pharmacy Technician Crossword Puzzles,” by Eric Christianson, PharmD, a “unique and entertaining” puzzle book with “nearly 1,000 mind-stimulating questions and clues” to ace the PTCB exam. A better motive to study has never been published. As it happens, 2024 is the 100th anniversary of the first book of crosswords published by Simon & Schuster (in 1924), which came with a pencil. In a genius promotional stroke, the publisher founded the Amateur Cross Word Puzzle League of America that same year, fueling what would quickly become a nationwide craze.
