Merger guidelines a win for pharmacy says NCPA

In 2022, NCPA urged the FTC and the Department of Justice to amend merger guidelines to bring health care consolidation into focus and also include quality, choice, and lower costs for consumers. Then, last month, the FTC and the Justice Department lowered the threshold for scrutiny and challenge for mergers in a set of newly released guidelines, effectively making corporate concentration more difficult and making competition more fulsome, as reported in qAM. “This is what we believe is a clear interpretation—a textual interpretation—of the laws,” says Matthew Seiler, RN, Esq., general counsel at NCPA, in the latest episode of the Independent Rx Forum podcast in his update about this development, which is a win for pharmacy that NCPA has been pushing down the track. Also on the docket for the podcast is a discussion about a new class action lawsuit, insights into the TRUST LLC, and an update on a crucial meeting with state attorneys general. This episode of Independent Rx Forum podcast is a co-production of NCPA and Pharmacy Times. Tune in now.
