NCPA joins NACDS to call for fair reimbursement and reduced administrative burden on pharmacists

NCPA September 19, 2023

NCPA submitted joint comments with NACDS to CMS’ guidance on the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan (formerly “copay smoothing”) of the Inflation Reduction Act. NCPA and NACDS advocated that CMS should adequately and appropriately reimburse pharmacies for the coordination of patient benefits under the Inflation Reduction Act. We stated that enrollee notification, counseling and consultation are the responsibilities of plan sponsors and their PBMs, not pharmacies, and any such tasks conducted by pharmacies would create administrative burden and should be adequately reimbursed through an administrative fee.
