NCPA Months of Action

Host Your Legislators
and Urge Them to Finish the Fight

Your continued engagement is necessary to ensure Congress finishes the fight and passes robust PBM reforms! A package of PBM reforms made it right to the goal line in March, but due to political concerns about unrelated policies, these health care provisions were not included in legislation that funded the government. NCPA priorities under consideration for that proposal included:

  • S. 2973, the Modernizing and Ensuring PBM Accountability (MEPA) Act (passed 26-1 out of the Senate Finance Committee)/H.R. 5378, the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act (passed the House of Representatives on an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 320-71)

    • Bans spread pricing in Medicaid managed care by requiring a fair and transparent reimbursement to pharmacies and saves over $1 billion.

  • S. 3430, the Better Mental Health Care, Lower-Cost Drugs, and Extenders Act (unanimously passed the Senate Finance Committee)

    • Includes the No PBMs Act, which requires CMS to define reasonable and relevant contract terms in Medicare.

Hosting legislators or their key staff for a visit to your pharmacy and meeting with them face to face is the best way to convey the urgency of pushing robust PBM reforms across the finish line. Let them see firsthand the important role you play in your community and the egregious PBM abuses you face. We need all community and LTC pharmacists to participate and keep the pressure on our elected officials to finish the fight by passing strong legislation. This year, members of Congress are scheduled to be away from Washington during the entire months of August and October, providing tremendous opportunities to host them in your pharmacy. After all the progress Congress has made, it is imperative they don’t let the PBMs off the hook.

Please let us know of your interest in participating by completing this interest form or by emailing Michael Rule at [email protected]. He will follow up with you to help you invite your legislators for a visit to your pharmacy.
