Key House panel to hold legislative hearing on PBM reform

NCPA February 20, 2025

The House Energy and Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Health announced that they will hold a hearing, "An Examination of How Reining in PBMs Will Drive Competition and Lower Costs for Patients," on Wednesday, Feb. 26. NCPA is excited to see Congress taking up the mantle of PBM reform again after the outcome of December funding negotiations.

Health Subcommittee Chair Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) and the overall committee's chair, Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.), are staunch pharmacy champions, and we commend their commitment to holding PBMs accountable and providing independent pharmacies with much-needed relief.

Guthrie and Carter said, "As outlined in recent reports, significant consolidation in the PBM marketplace has led to fewer options for patients and employers and less competition to keep out-of-pocket drug costs in check. Over the past few years, this subcommittee has led on a myriad of legislative solutions which will help guide our continued work toward delivering high quality health care for the American people."

Witnesses for the hearing have not yet been announced but NCPA will update our members as the hearing agenda becomes available. We will be making our voice heard by submitting testimony to the committee.
