Fire up the shredder

NCPA February 19, 2025

If your pharmacy has printed copies of the Medicare Drug Coverage and Your Rights notice that don’t have “Expires 12/31/2027” at the bottom, feed them to the shredder. CMS has published an update to the standardized notice that pharmacies are required to provide to patients with a Medicare drug plan when a rejected claim has Reject Code 569: Provide Beneficiary with CMS Notice of Appeal Rights. If your dispensing system prints these on demand, check to see if they have published the updated version with the current 12/31/2027 expiration date. CMS has given Part D plans until April 12 to implement the updated notice. You can download the instructions for pharmacies and several translations of the updated notice here.
