billboardCheffy Drugs in Barnesville, Ohio is celebrating its 100th year in 2025 and has commissioned a beautiful mural to commemorate the store’s long history serving the community.

The building was built in the 1850s as the Davenport Dry Goods store. In 1865 it became a pharmacy, with several different owners including in 1925, when it became Cheffy Drugs. It was owned by the Cheffy family until 1992, when it was purchased by Jim Circosta.

After interning with Cheffy, current owner Patrick Kovacs made it his goal to one day own the location. He purchased it in 2007 and has owned it since. He is also outspoken about matters important to independent community pharmacies, including pharmacy benefit manager reform.

"The building has housed a pharmacy since 1865," he said. "We have survived the end of the Civil War, two world wars, the Great Depression, two major worldwide pandemics, and every other major event yet corporate greed by the PBMs is what has put us on the edge of extinction."
