Incoming House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.) announced his picks to lead the committee’s six subcommittees. Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.), a retired Georgia pharmacist and a major pharmacy champion in Congress, will lead the Subcommittee on Health, giving him significant authority over the committee’s work on health care and pharmacy issues.
The other two candidates vying for that subcommittee chairmanship, Reps. Morgan Griffith (R-Va.) and Gus Bilirakis (R-Fla.), received the top spots on the subcommittees for the Environment and for Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade, respectively. Other announcements included Reps. Richard Hudson (R-N.C.) for Communications and Technology, Gary Palmer (R-Ala.) for Oversight and Investigations, and Bob Latta (R-Ohio) for Energy. Latta had competed with Guthrie for the overall chairmanship of the committee.
