The first portion of a docuseries digging into the prescription drug pricing crisis caused by PBMs’ price manipulations and its effects on independent pharmacies will be released this December. It’s directed by Mary Strause (whose father, Dan Strause, is CFO of Hometown Pharmacy, an NCPA member in Wisconsin) and aims to shed light on the issues not just for pharmacies and patients, but also for legislators and employers providing employee coverage.
“Independent pharmacies are the canary in the coal mine and the last line of defense for patient-over-profit health care,” Dan said. “They are the most accessible health care provider and a precious national health care resource that is being targeted for extinction by Wall Street PBMs.”
Patient Protector, the advocacy group that is executive producing the series, is asking pharmacists to fill out a survey on their experiences with PBMs regarding patient steering and fair negotiations. You can fill out their survey here.
You can watch a 90-second trailer here. You can also view an 11-minute short film previewing the series here. Stay tuned—we’ll keep you updated on the docuseries here in qAM.
