The New York Times found PBMs are underpaying independent pharmacies. CVS told them it doesn’t care.

The second story in a major investigation by the New York Times was released on Saturday, and found that PBMs are “systematically underpaying independent drugstores, creating ‘pharmacy deserts’ across the country.” Brazenly, the PBMs interviewed made their stance clear: independent pharmacy closures aren’t their problem, and they don’t care.

CVS chief executive David Joyner told the newspaper that the country has too many pharmacies and that his goal was to save money for employers, not pay independent pharmacies fairly. Read the article here.
