Florida state of emergency allows for early prescription refills

Gov. Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency for 51 counties in the potential path of Tropical Storm Milton, meaning that all health insurers, managed care organizations, pharmacy benefit managers, and other health entities must waive time restrictions on prescription medication refills if there are authorized refills remaining to allow pharmacists to help patients refill their prescriptions in advance of the storm. Medication coverage providers must authorize payment to pharmacies for at least a 30-day supply of any medication.

The counties are Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Brevard, Broward, Charlotte, Citrus, Clay, Collier, Columbia, DeSoto, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Glades, Hamilton, Hardee, Hendry, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Indian River, Lafayette, Lake, Lee, Levy, Madison, Manatee, Marion, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Nassau, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns, St. Lucie, Sumter, Suwanee, Taylor, Union, and Volusia counties.
