As part of its ongoing consideration of potential PBM reforms, the Illinois House Health Care Availability and Access Committee held a subject matter hearing on Wednesday, Sept. 11 to examine specialty pharmacy concerns related to PBMs.
The committee heard from a panel of stakeholders including academics, PBMs, the Pharmaceutical Care Management Association, the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission, patient groups, and health system pharmacists.
Additionally, the committee heard from independent community pharmacy owner and NCPA member Dave Bagot. Dave shared problems that his patients and employees face regarding specialty pharmacy mail order and his experiences as the owner of Petersburg Pharmacy regarding the challenges of specialty pharmacy accreditation in an environment of chronic below-cost reimbursement. NCPA was pleased to attend the hearing and continues to support the PBM reform efforts of its members and partners in Illinois.
