California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.), signed into law Assembly Bill 1286 which authorizes the pharmacist-in-charge to make staffing decisions within a pharmacy and to notify store management if conditions within the pharmacy create a risk to patient safety. Additionally, the bill allows the California Board of Pharmacy to close a pharmacy if those conditions are not resolved and requires pharmacies to report medication errors to the Board of Pharmacy within 14 days of discovering the mistake and maintain those records.
