USC-NCPA Pharmacy Access InitiativeOn Thursday, May 25, as part of the USC-NCPA Pharmacy Access Initiative, NCPA attended "From Chicago to Los Angeles: Addressing Barriers to Equity in Pharmacy Access,” a meeting of experts from across the country, to participate and call attention to the access issues caused by PBMs. Attendees included public health professionals, providers working in underserved populations, health plan executives, community access experts, and seasoned public servants, all with a wealth of knowledge and experience. Hot topics that came up during the discussion included the anticompetitive practices of PBMs, drug pricing, and narrow pharmacy networks in government programs. Participants also attended a community stakeholder session where they engaged with citizens living in a known pharmacy shortage area and addressed their concerns. NCPA looks forward to continuing work on the USC-NCPA Pharmacy Access Initiative and further development of the Pharmacy Shortage Areas Mapping Tool, in part, to rebalance the industry and empower independent pharmacies to be community anchors across the country.
