West Virginia: NCPA urges state senate to support actions codifying PREP Act flexibilities

NCPA February 27, 2023

NCPA sent a letter to the chairman of the West Virginia Senate Committee on Health and Human Resources requesting approval of House Bill 2754, which will add supervised vaccine administration under their pharmacy technician scope of practice. West Virginia pharmacy technicians have been administering vaccines since October 2020 when HHS issued guidance under the PREP Act declaration covering COVID-19 tests, drugs and vaccines which permitted qualified pharmacy technicians under a pharmacist’s supervision to administer FDA-approved vaccines to individuals three and older. This bill will keep these new authorities in place as the permissions granted under the PREP Act declaration expire in 2024.
