NCPA provides information to CMS on pharmacy access

NCPA November 9, 2022

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services recently opened a Request for Information: Promoting Efficiency and Equity Within CMS Programs, to gather information to aid Medicare and Medicaid programs. NCPA submitted information on pharmacy access as it pertains to pharmacy shortage areas and recent findings from the USC-NCPA Pharmacy Access Initiative’s pharmacy shortage area identification tool. The tool shows that more than 25 percent of census tracts do not have adequate pharmacy access as shown in peer reviewed studies, but only one-third of these tracts have designation as a medically underserved area. NCPA also provided information regarding CMS waivers and flexibilities during the public health emergency, endorsing that the flexibility be maintained after the PHE ends.
