The Beatles released “Hey Jude” in the U.S. The song was written by Paul McCartney and credited to the Lennon–McCartney partnership. The single was the Beatles' first release on their Apple Records label and was a No. 1 hit in many countries around the world. It was the year's top-selling single in the U.K., the U.S., Australia and Canada. Its nine-week run at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 tied the all-time record in 1968 for the longest run at the top of the U.S. charts, a record it held for nine years. It has sold approximately 8 million copies and is frequently included on music critics' lists of the greatest songs of all time. "Hey Jude" is more than seven minutes long, more than twice as long as other pop songs of the time.
