Firefighters are battling the worst fire in the state’s history in New Mexico right now. It’s a grueling task but last week there was a bright spot. Rescuers found a tiny kitten in a box, and volunteers from the San Diego Humane Society took her to an animal evacuation center in Las Vegas. The furry survivor is healing from an upper respiratory infection and slowly getting back to typical cat activities. Here’s a video of the patient, who appears to be having a ball. As of Friday, more than 3,000 firefighters were working around the clock to fight the blaze, which covers 312,000 acres in Hermits Peak and Calf canyons.
