pastresidentsThe NCPA Executive Residency is a springboard into a career of association work or independent practice that will provide you with distinction as a future leader in the health care field. The executive residency, conducted at NCPA Headquarters in Alexandria, VA, helps distinguish you from your fellow graduates by opening doors to new and rewarding opportunities in numerous areas of pharmacy and health care.

NCPA's headquarters is located in Old Town Alexandria, and is just steps away from the King Street Metro station. Alexandria, hometown of George Washington, is rich in tradition, with a history that dates back more than 350 years. Alexandria is also only five miles from the heart of downtown Washington D.C. The District of Columbia is home to the National Mall, historic monuments, the Smithsonian, and many other attractions. It also boasts a variety of unique neighborhoods, each with its own style, one-of-a-kind restaurants, shops, and plenty of nightlife.

Overview

TIME COMMITMENT

The National Community Pharmacists Association Executive Residency is a 13-month term beginning June 1 and ending June 30 of the following year. Some travel will be expected.

LOCATION

NCPA is located in Old Town Alexandria, Va., only five miles from the heart of downtown Washington, D.C., and within walking distance to the King Street Metro Station.

COMPENSATION

NCPA’s resident receives a competitive salary and benefits package including 21 days paid time off, federal holidays, health/dental/vision insurance with optional HSA, life and disability insurance options, and eligibility for a 401(k)-retirement savings plan. Relocation assistance is also available.

EXPLORING LEADERSHIP POTENTIAL

The NCPA Executive Residency Program prepares a doctor of pharmacy graduate for a career in association management or independent pharmacy. This non-traditional opportunity affords the resident a diverse experience working with multiple departments within NCPA.

INNOVATION

The resident is based out of the Innovation Center. NCPA’s Innovation Center provides pharmacy owners the education, support, and tools they need to efficiently and effectively run their business. From promoting ownership to developing and marketing new programming, the resident will hone their leadership capabilities and business skills.

COMMUNICATIONS

NCPA is responsible for gathering, designing, publishing, and disseminating information that advocates for and benefits pharmacy owners. The resident’s written and oral communication skills will be enhanced as they draft articles for America’s Pharmacist® magazine or other communications, as well as when they represent NCPA with industry stakeholders.

CONNECT

NCPA values strong relationships within the health care sector. During the resident’s tenure at NCPA, they will network with innovative members, pharmacy organizations, and industry thought leaders.

ADVOCACY

NCPA’s government affairs team works on Capitol Hill and beyond to defend the interests of the nation’s community pharmacists and their patients. Through committee hearings, special projects, and collaboration with other pharmacy associations, the resident will be fundamentally aware of the importance of advocacy and grassroots efforts.

  • A completed application form
  • A letter of intent explaining your career goals and reason for interest in the NCPA Executive Residency Program
  • A copy of your most recent resume or curriculum vitae describing your work and professional experiences
  • Head shot photograph (optional)

  • Two letters of recommendation endorsing your interest and ability to effectively participate in this dynamic environment.
