NCPA joins NACDS, APhA in asking that CMS end utilization management for vaccines

NCPA joined the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) and the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) in a recent letter to CMS expressing our concerns about utilization management tactics that we understand are being employed by Medicare Part D sponsors for vaccine coverage. The pharmacy groups collectively urged CMS to prohibit Part D sponsors from using such utilization management tactics for vaccine coverage and to reject any Part D formulary that suggests utilization management for vaccine coverage. The joint letter stems from problems Pfizer has made us aware of with PBMs playing games with Medicare Part D vaccine coverage.
