On Nov. 9, the Louisiana Department of Insurance fined Express Scripts and MedImpact for delays in paying adjudicated claims on behalf of the Office of Group Benefits, which provides benefits to state employees, retirees, and their eligible dependents. The LDI began its investigation after receiving complaints from 19 independent pharmacies, which were further substantiated by the Louisiana Independent Pharmacies Association. Express Scripts paid a fine of $275,000 and $1.5 million of interest to the affected pharmacies. MedImpact was fined $250,000 and paid approximately $602,000 in interest to affected pharmacies.
