The Biden administration announced Wednesday that it is planning to recommend offering a booster coronavirus shot to all Americans beginning the week of Sept. 20, top health officials said, if the FDA and ACIP conclude that a third shot is needed to fight off waning immunity from infection and to stay, as Dr. Anthony Fauci said, “one step ahead of the virus.” At a news conference on Wednesday, White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator Jeff Zients said they anticipate a recommendation that individuals get the third shot eight months after they received the second dose. He also said that the vaccine should be available at more than 80,000 locations, including 40,000 local pharmacies. No word on boosters for the one-shot J & J vaccine. NCPA will update this story as more information becomes available. Here’s a statement from HHS.
