Nebraska: Pharmacists work to keep PREP Act authorities

NCPA February 27, 2023

NCPA submitted written testimony to the Nebraska Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee to support LB202, which would authorize pharmacy technicians to administer vaccines under a pharmacist’s supervision. During the interim, the NCPA sent a letter of support during the credentialing review process by the Department of Health. Nebraska pharmacy technicians have been administering vaccines since October 2020 when the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services issued guidance under the PREP Act declaration covering COVID-19 tests, drugs and vaccines to permit qualified pharmacy technicians under a pharmacist’s supervision to administer FDA-approved vaccines to individuals three and older. This bill will keep these new authorities in place as the permissions granted under the PREP Act declaration expire in 2024.
