Axios reported that the number of people in the United States without health insurance increased by 1.6 million in the first quarter of 2024, reaching around 8.2 percent after hitting a record low last year, according to CDC data. Gains in health care coverage from pandemic-era policies are beginning to expire, Axios said, also noting that the number of uninsured is still significantly lower than the 10.3 percent of the population that lacked insurance in 2019.
