Get ready today for a buzz, a beep, a meep, or a bwak (depending on your particular brand of onomatopoeia). At 2:20 p.m. ET, the Federal Emergency Management Agency will conduct a test on the Emergency Alert Systems and send out a Wireless Emergency Alert to all cell phones, simultaneously and unremittingly. It’s the seventh nationwide test of EAS since 2011, and the third such test of WEA transmitted to all wireless devices. Messages will read (in English and Spanish), “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.” Consider mentioning it to your patients today as they drop by. It might be news to them.
