The CDC on Tuesday updated mask guidance based on what scientists have learned about the delta variant’s ability to cause breakthrough infections in fully vaccinated persons. Data show that the delta variant is different than past versions of the virus: it is far more contagious. CDC is updating its recommendations for what you can do when you are vaccinated. Use this color-coded map to see what’s happening in your community. In areas with substantial and high transmission, CDC recommends that everyone (including fully vaccinated individuals) wear a mask in public indoor settings to help prevent spread of delta and protect others. Remember that vaccinated individuals represent a very small amount of transmission around the country and the overwhelming majority of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are in those who remain unvaccinated.
