New Michigan law expands pharmacist authority

NCPA January 6, 2021

A new law gives Michigan pharmacists authority to dispense an emergency 60-day refill (non-controlled drugs) if ongoing patient care would be interrupted. The law also allows temporary operation of a pharmacy in a location not designated on the pharmacy license, authorizes a pharmacist to dispense and administer a drug as needed to treat COVID-19, authorizes therapeutic substitution for drugs subject to a critical shortage, allows oversight of pharmacy staff remotely, and more.
